KC Fire FC Weather Policy

Your safety is our top priority at KC Fire FC. To protect everyone during club activities, we follow these guidelines in case of severe weather:

Thunderstorms & Tornadoes:

  • Watches or Warnings: If a Thunderstorm Warning or a Tornado Watch/Warning is issued for our area, all club activities will be stopped immediately and will not begin until the warning/watch is lifted.

Lightning:

  • If lightning is seen, thunder is heard, or lightning is detected within an 8-mile radius all activities will stop.
    • ODAC has an on-site monitoring system and coaches utilize weather apps that notify us of lightning strikes.
  • Activities will not resume until 30 minutes after the last observed lightning strike or thunder.
  • Important: Parents, players, and spectators should immediately inform coaches of any lightning sightings, thunder, or severe weather alerts.
  • Safety First: The safest place during lightning is inside a vehicle. Avoid seeking shelter under trees, open shelters, or concession stands, as these offer no protection from lightning strikes.

Extreme Temperatures:

  • Cold Weather: Activities will not start or continue if the actual temperature or wind chill is below 28°F.
  • Hot Weather: Activities will not start or continue if the actual temperature is 101°F or higher, or if the heat index (temperature and humidity) is 101°F or higher.
  • Heat Policy Guidelines for Coaches:
    • 95-99°F (Actual Temp or Heat Index): Mandatory water break every 20 minutes.
    • 100°F (Actual Temp or Heat Index): Cancellation is strongly recommended. If practice continues, water breaks are required every 15 minutes with reduced running.
    • 101°F+ (Actual Temp or Heat Index): All activities are canceled or will not continue.
